Second St., died Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2007, at WCA Hospital. He was born in Falconer on Oct. 18, 1918, the son of Salvatore and Vincenza Spoto Messina. He was a graduate of Falconer High School in 1934 at age 15. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army with the 253rd Engineering C. Battalion from November 1943 to Feb. 14, 1946. He earned the Good Conduct Medal, European- African Middle Eastern Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and World War II Victory Medal. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, retiring in 1988. He was previously employed by Hope's Windows, Jamestown Malleable Iron and Chevie Plant in Buffalo. He was a communicant of St. John's Roman Catholic Church. Surviving are his wife, Rosa Anzideo Messina of 66 years, whom he married on April 26, 1941, at St. John's Roman Catholic Church by Father Billerio; a daughter, Rita Messina of Tampa, Fla., a son, Paul (Karm Ann) Messina; four grandchildren: five grea! t-grandchildren: and a sister, Jospehine Giambra of Jamestown; Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Catherine DeMarco in 1959, Mary Avenia in 2001, and Rose Ceci in 2005; two brothers: Saro Messina in 2001 and Lary Messina in 2004, and a nephew, Joseph DeMarco in 2004.
