I'll tell you what I have so far: I have an 1840 Sherman census with Mahlon Barley as head of household. I have the 1850 and 1860 Sherman census with Michael and Mary. Also in the 1850 census is Orra and his wife Almira (Ross) and their dau. Martha. I have photos that Norman McIntyre took for me of the gravestones of Michael, Mary, Orra, and Martha in Sherman Valley Cem. Orra died first in 1851, then Michael Jr. and Martha in 1866, and Mary in 1868. What I'm looking for are any probate or land records, and for a marriage record for Orra and Almira. We have no idea why this family left Kent, CT in 1839 - leaving in such a way as to give the appearance that they had died - will went to probate and minor children were provided with guardianship.
