Brad Grimes & Lilly Pratt were my great grandparents. The 1910 census showing her as having had 4 kids with 3 still living is correct. Her only son with Brad, Ernest was born 5-15-1888 in Gilby, Grand Forks Co., ND. He died 8-17-1889 and is buried in the Inkster Cemetery in Inkster, ND. In the 1920 census, Ophelia or Orpha as the family called her? She had married John Peter Franzwa from Minnesota. Lilly Pratt did die 12-12-1943 and is listed in the Minnesota death index but her name is listed as Lillian Finette Grimes. For quite some time she was refered by to by some researchers as the "many married Lilly". Some were attributing a marriage to a Baldwin, when it was actually her daughter Nellie Horton that married Fred Baldwin. John Alexander Grimes, called Jack by family members, went into the military in 1907 and stayed in until 1920. He is listed in the North Dakota Military Men book along with all of his assignments. Long about 1922-1924, John roofed a house for my grandfather, outside Bridesville, Britich Colombia. He then appears in a 1930 census Tanner, King Co., WA working in a logging camp. Austin Grimes has not been found in the 1900 census as yet. In 1910, he is in Baudette, MN, working as a barn foreman. In 1915, he signed up with the Canadian Espeditionary Forces at Calgary Alberta. We think he died in 1943, and is buried in Calgary but it is not confirmed as yet. Flora Grimes line mainly went up into Canada and quite a bit of progress has been mad on them. This Horton fellow though has been a problem are there any marriage books for that area of Chautauqua Co.? I have no first name and obviously only a death window of 5 years if they were ever married. Thanks a million, Mac, O.R.G. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
