Surnames: WILKINS, KELLEY, SCOTT, OBER Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/SRB.2ACE/12208 Message Board Post: DATA Source History of Fillmore County, Minnesota Cordello WILKINS m Sarah KELLEY in 1855 when still an energetic young man, who was engaged in the carriage business in Stockton, Chautauqua Co NY closed his business there and ventured west with his wife Sarah , and ch Harriet H, Roseltha, and Thaddeus , finding the Valley of Spring Lake soon purchased 320 acres; He at once became the prime factor in the growth and prosperity of the little hamlet;he built the first frame house in Spring Valley , was one of the first postmasters, and real estate salesman, His life ended early in 1868 when but 52 yrs of age, His widow survived him by many decades, passed away in May 21, 1900 She was a woman of sterling worth and character son Thaddeus A WILKINS born Stockton, Chautauqua Co NY March 25, 1848 grew to manhood in Filnmore Co MN, in 1864 before the age of 16, enlisted in Co B Hatches Batt MN Cav, doing scout duty in the western part of the Dakotas for 3 yrs, returned home and entered into the hardware business with his brother in law, James SCOTT about 18 months later left that business, went to Wisconsin, went to a commercial college for about a yr, returned to Spring Valley and engaged in the insurance and general collection business, later was appointed deputy sheriff, he married to Medora OBER, dau of Joseph and Rosanna CHATFIELD Ober and has had 2 sons, FLoyd died in infancy and Thad A WILKINS JR is a popular dairyman settled on land owned by his grandfather Cordello WILKINS, married Perl BRYAN of Wells MN and this union has been blessed with 4 daughters, Calla, Beryl, Dora and Dorris Thaddeus A Wilkins , Enlistment Date:27 February 1864 Distinguished Service: Side Served:Union State Served:Minnesota Unit Numbers:1146 1146 Service Record:Enlisted as a Private on 27 February 1864 at the age of 21 Enlisted in Company B, Heavy Artillerytch's Battn Cavalry Regiment Minnesota on 27 February 1864. Mustered out Company B, Heavy Artillerytch's Battn Cavalry Regiment Minnesota on 09 June 1866 in 1930 Medora lived with her son THAD JR in Filmore MN she died 3 Aug 1933 Fillmore Thaddeus Adelbert Wilkins Death Date:13 Feb 1925 Death County:Fillmore State File Number:004240 son THAD Thad Wilkins23 May 1872 died 29 Dec 1958 Olmsted Co MN mothers maiden name is Ober
