West, 96, formerly of Bemus Point, died at 7:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Heritage Green Health Care Center, Greenhurst, N.Y. He was born June 21, 1904, in Kittanning, Pa., the son of James Ardell and Nina Held West. He owned and operated West's Restaurant in Bemus Point from 1945 to 1961and in earlier years was employed as purchasing director and cafeteria manager for the Oil City School District, Oil City. He was town of Ellery supervisor and instrument in the building of the bridge over Chautauqua Lake. He was a 50-year member of the Sylvan Masonic Lodge 303 F & AM and a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by two sons: Robert R. West of Strattonville, Pa., and James L. West of Lady Lake, Fla., and Greenhurst; a daughter, Lois Ann Hull of Fluvanna and Coco Beach, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Della L. Redmond, whom he married June 15, 1922, and who died Nov. 30, 1982; a son, Eugene E. West; a grandson, John David West; a sister, Naomi West; and a brother, Chauncey West. Burial will be in Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City, Pa.
