Ralph Stanford, 79, of 2986 Fluvanna Townline Road, died at 8:59 a.m. Monday (Sept. 5, 2005) in his home. A Jamestown area resident since 1947, he was born March 20, 1926, in Mayville, the son of Hugh P. and Alice Rollman Stanford. He was a 1947 graduate of Mayville High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II from Aug. 21, 1944 until his discharge as a Corporal on June 28, 1946. He was employed at the former Blackstone Corporation for more than 40 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of John W. Tiffany Post 53 VFW, Thomas G. Stone 1996 AMVets, Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion and War Vets Recreation. Surviving are two daughters: Mary Judy Close of Sunrise, Fla. and Anne M. Zepka of Jamestown; two sons: Jeffery C. Stanford of Jamestown and Peter R. Stanford of Ocala, Fla.; seven grandchildren: a great granddaughter; four sisters: Rose Maulding of Mayville, Carol Johnson of Frewsburg, Ruth Anderson of Gresham, Ore. and Janet Swanson of Seattle, W! ash.; and two brothers: Allen Stanford of Seattle and Paul Stanford of North East. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia A. Lovejoy Stanford, whom he married June 19, 1947, and who died Sept. 7, 1994; a sister, Jean Smith; and four brothers Norman, Gerald, Lester and Bruce Stanford. Burial will be in the Fluvanna Cemetery.
