Merchant St. John, 100, formerly of Ellery Center, died at 2:37 p.m. Saturday Feb. 15, 2003 in the Lutheran Retirement Home. She was born Nov. 10, 1902, in Brocton, the daughter of Almond and Ella Durfee Merchant. She was a member of Christ First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed flowers and gardening. She is survived by three sons: Donald St. John of Monroe, La., Louis St. John of Cunningham, Tenn., and William St. John of Sinclairville; six grandchildren: Linda Boyd of Pittsburgh, Ann Acquilano of Berlington, N.C., David St. John of Bristol, Tenn., Carolyn Reynolds of Sherman, Steven St. John of Asheville, N.C., and Bruce St. John of Jamestown; 17 great grandchildren; and a great great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, William St. John, whom she married Sept. 1, 1922, and who died Jan. 5, 1993; a daughter, Viola May St. John; and three sisters: Marie Bloor, Helen Davis and Olive Freer. Burial will be in Webster Cemetery, Laona.
