Austin, 95, of 44 Fairmount Ave., Jamestown, formerly of Route 60, Gerry, died at 7:10 p.m. Friday Dec. 19, 1997 in Heritage Green Health Care Center. He was born Feb. 26, 1902, in Jamestown, a son of John and Lina Austin. Prior to his retirement in 1967, he was employed for 13 years as an inspector at Marlin-Rockwell Corp. In earlier years he had worked at Sear-Roebuck and following his retirement had been employed at Heritage Village in Gerry. He was a member of Gerry United Methodist Church, where he served in various church offices, and the AFL-CIO. He was a former member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club and the Chautauqua County Bird Dog Association. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, horses and raising dogs. Surviving are his wife, the former Odessa Graves, whom he married July 9, 1949, in Falconer; five daughters: Nedra Anderson of Celoron, Irma Mae Culpit of Magholia, Miss., Lina Bryant of New Orleans, La., Madaline Ellison of Baton Rouge, La., and Gayle Warner of Baker, La.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irma Austin; three brothers: Fred, Glen and Richard Austin; and three sisters: Mildred Austin, Norma Woodams and an infant sister. Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery.
