The "Lefebvre Family Yearbook" mailing mentioned in several recent postings sounds very much like a scam I fell for a little over a year ago. I received a mailing for a "Waxham Family Yearbook," my surname. It came from an outfit called The Family News, 1181 S. Parker Rd. #105, Denver CO 80231-2153. Since several members of my extended family lived in Denver at various times over the past 100+ years, I thought they could really give my research a boost. I sent them some 40 to 50 bucks (can't remember the exact price) and they sent me a spiral-bound publication about 3/8" thick. It turned out to be a total flim-flam. The published pulled up the Social Security Death Index to get a list of names of family members and coupled it with a pile of boilerplate labeled with my surname. For example, there was a listing of the "Top 10 Waxham Family Recipes" which had been lifted from some cookbook and given names like "Chocolate-Raspberry Brownies, Waxham Style." My advice to fellow genealogists is--Be smarter than I was and don't send these people any money. Bob Waxham Smithfield, Virginia
