Smith, 87, a resident of the Chautauqua County Home, Dunkirk, formerly of Pecor Street, Portland, died Saturday (Oct 24, 1992) in Brooks Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness. She was born April 16, 1905, in Westfield, a daughter of the late Edward and Nellie Olmsted Van Giesen. Survivng are one daughter, Pauline VandeVelde of Dunkirk; one son Brenton Smith of Westfield, four grandchildren; three grandchildren; and a sister, Bernice Johnson of Jamestown. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Smith; and a sister, Ruth Moss. Private burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.
