Cornell, 79, of Maple Springs, died at 9:15 p.m. Sunday Nov.23, 1975 in Jamestown General Hospital after a two-day illness. He was a retired carpenter. He was born July 19, 1896 in Rexville, NY, a son of Ezra and Jennie Cornell. He married the former Gladys Newbury in 1917 in Jamestown. He had been a resident of Maple Springs for the past three years, coming from Hollywood, Fla. Mr. Cornell was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Bemus Point American Legion and was an exempt fireman of the Maple Springs Fire Department. In addition to his wife, he is survivd by one son, Purl D. Cornell Jr. of Baldwinsville; one daughter, Mrs. Janice Bixby of Clay; several grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. The Rev. Lyston Kanppenberger, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Mayville, will officiate. Burial will be in Mayville Cemetery.
