John Lee Sharp, 21, son of Sterl U. and Nellie Bennett Sharp of the Centralia-Hartfield Road, was killed Monday evening (Aug. 9, 1965) in a one-car accident near Marlinton, W. Va., according to word received by his brother, Stanford Sharp of the Centralia-Hartfield Road. Private Sharp, who had just completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J., had spent a leave at home and, with his parents, was visiting his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rosa Sharp and other relatives of Slaty Fork, W. Va. He was born in Jamestown, Jan. 15, 1944, and was graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1962. Before entering the service, he was employed at the Ring Punch and Dye Division, Producto Machine Co., Jamestown. Besides his parents, brother and grandmother, he is survived by another brother, Kyle Sharp, at home; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sophia Bennett, Jamestown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville,. The Rev. Roger B. Smith, pastor of the Centralia Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery.
