Chalmers Jr., 77, of Miller Road, Fredonia died Tuesday morning (May 25, 2004) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. He was born in Buffalo on Nov. 24, 1926, the son of the late Alexander L. and Annabell (Strachan) Chalmers. Mr. Chalmers was a Fredonia resident for most of his life. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he had been employed by Niagara Mohawk at the Huntley Steam Station in Buffalo, transferring to the Dunkirk Steam Station in 1960. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church of Dunkirk and a life member of the Dunkirk Elks Lodge 922. Survivors include his wife, Vonette ''Bonnie'' (Tripp) Chalmers, whom he married on Oct. 30, 1953; a son, Lee A. Chalmers of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Deborah A. Chalmers of Dunkirk and Mrs. Gary (Christine) Pleva of Forestville; two sisters, Doris Pierce of Kenmore and Alice McBean of Clarence; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Lynn Chalmers, who died May 30, 1974. Arrangements are by the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, Dunkirk.
