Burns, 81, of 80 Canterbury Road, W.E., died at 1:30 a.m. Monday (Nov.11, 2002) in WCA Hospital. A lifelong area resident, he was born July 19, 1921, in Jamestown, the son of Gifford ''Deak'' and Lottie Paplow Burns. He was a graduate of Falconer High School and attended Texas Tech. He had served in the Air Force during World War II from 1942 to 1946 as a pilot flight instructor. His career in the insurance business started in 1949 with Charles M. Smith Insurance Inc., Falconer, where he worked until his retirement in 1984 as president of the company. He was a member of the former Epworth Christ United Methodist Church and was presently a member of the Christ First United Methodist Church. He was a life member of the Falconer Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief for many years and marched in the department's former Kiltie Band. He was currently a member of the Falconer Fire Department Exempts. He was a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, a former member and past president of the Falconer Rotary Club, served on the Chautauqua County Airport Commission and on the board of directors of the former Chautauqua National Bank.He is survived by his wife, Ruby Sexton Burns, whom he married Jan. 19, 1946, in Enid, Okla.; a daughter, Sheryl Lynn Johnson of Jamestown; two grandchildren: Gregory and Kristina Johnson, both of Jamestown; and a sister, Virginia Acker of New Windsor, Md. He was preceded in death by an infant sister. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer.
