Vangeli, 90, of Heritage Green Health Care Center, Greenhurst, formerly of Ithaca and Cortland, died at 6:30 p.m. Monday (June 9, 2003) in the nursing home. A Jamestown area resident since 2000, she was born Jan. 25, 1913, in Demarest, N.J., the daughter of Harry S. and Glenna Zacharias Stevens. She was the widow of Philip L. Vangeli, whom she married May 29, 1932, and who died Sept. 8, 1961. She was an account clerk in the General Store Department of Cornell University, retiring in 1978. She was active in the Cornell University Episcopal Church. She was an accomplished violinist, an avid sports person, and loved to play golf, bridge and traveling. Surviving are a son, Philip Stevens Vangeli of Ithaca; a daughter, Glenna Phyllis Anderson-Wendt of Rogers, Ark.; 10 grandchildren: Amy Elizabeth Magdon of Syracuse, Philip Stevens Vangeli Jr. of Baltimore, Jeffrey Phillip Vangeli of Queens, N.Y., Christine Margaret Vangeli of Jamestown, Virgina Lynn Luttrell of Topeka, Kansas, Marcia Joan Wilhelmsen of Laramie, Wyo., William Bryan and Gina Marie Anderson, both of Rogers, Richard Philip Anderson of El Dorado, Kansas, and Sheila Marie Anderson of Bentonville, Ark.; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in the Cortland Rural Cemetery, Cortland, N.Y.
