I have not been able to find a marriage record for them in the Netherlands, but they may have married just before they emigrated. Both were passengers on the ship Idaho, which left port at Liverpool, England, and arrived at New York City on 19 May 1873. Jan was born 23 January 1851 and Klaaske was born 5 May 1851, both probably born in Usquert or Sedum, Groningen. Their oldest child, Alta/Allie J., was born 18 April 1874 in New York State. She married 10 March 1892 in Chautauqua County, NY, with Henry Grades Kolstee. They were the parents of Claudia who married Carl Crosby, Florence who died as a child, and Clarence who married Mildred Osbourne. Allie and Henry are buried in Holland Cemetery in Clymer, NY.
