Robert E. Jursted, 82, of 20 Stafford St., died at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday (Oct. 12, 2005) in Tanglewood Manor. A lifelong area resident, he was born Jan. 18, 1923, in Jamestown, the son of Charles and Esther Anderson Jursted. He attended Jamestown Public Schools and was a U.S. Marine Corp. veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed by the former Crescent Tool Co. for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church, where he had served on the church council, as an usher, and served as Lutheran Brotherhood communicator. In earlier years he had coached the church softball team. He was also a member of the Ingjald Lodge 65, IOV, and the Thule Lodge. He had worked the sideline chains for the Red Raider varsity football games for more than 30 years and had also participated in the City Rec softball, basketball and horseshoe leagues. He was a scout leader with the Boy Scouts. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed woodworking He is survived by his wife, Wilma Jean Folwell Jursted, whom he married Dec. 20, 1947, in Grace E.U.B.; a son, Linden Jursted of Wyoming, N.Y.; two daughters: Laurel Jean Gaard of Apple Valley, Minn., and Leann Sweetheimer of Jamestown; five grandchildren: Cathryn Colby and Thomas Jursted, both of Batavia, Daniel, Rachel and Andrew Gaard, all of Apple Valley; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sisters: Alice Jursted and Ruth Adele Dahl. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of First Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mary Anne Nelson-Loefke, interim pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Falconer Funeral Home.
