Whitcomb, 86, formerly of 81 Hazzard St., died at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2005, in Heritage Park Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 18, 1919, in Watts Flats, the daughter of William and Hattie Chapman. Surviving are four sons: Henry (Sandra), Paul, Leroy and Earl Whitcomb; a daughter, Effie Johnson; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Whitcomb, and a sister, Alice Sturgeon. A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
