Author: 2boysmom_1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.chautauqua/21520.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I do have quite a few notes on them that I have yet to have time to put into my tree in Ancestry.com. I also have a photo of the front of the store and of Frederick Gron, one of the brothers, although only a Xerox copy. I'd be happy to put together my pile of information for you, scan and email you some things, etc. Will take me a while, as I'm working diligently on another part of the family right now. :o) Bottom line for a start - Charles and Frederick Gron, born in Sweden (approx 1836 & 1841, respectively, although I'm not sure of the dates yet), 2 of the 7 children of Andrew Gron and Mary Christina Simpson Gron, came to the us about 1851. They served in the Civil War, in Company F of the 9th Regiment of the NY Calvary, receiving official commendation for gallant and meritorious conduct. "Charley" was purportedly one of the 22 men who escorted Grant to Lee's surrendered at Appomatox. After the war they located in Jamestown and began what became a very successful livery business on Second Street. There is lots and lots more, including their descendents, who lead right to me. :o) Feel free to email me directly and we can exchange information. When Jennings registered for the WWI draft on June 2, 1917, he was living in Jamestown, NY, and stated that he was born May 4, 1894, in Spring Creek, PA. In the 1900 census he was found living in Sheffield, Warren County, PA, with his parents, George W. and Nellie M. King. Postings on Family Trees at Ancestry.com list Jennings as a son of George W. King and Nellie M. Ford. Those postings also note that Jennings was married to Florence G. Goodwill and LEAH M. Gilbert. In 1920 Jennings and Florence and their two sons were living in Wayne Township, Erie County, PA. In 1930 Jennings and Leah and five children were living in Chautauqua, Chautauqua County, NY. A brother, Benedict died in his 40's in 1934 and his obit only mentions two brothers. See below. Another brother, Frederick died around 1920 at age 32. I haven't located his obit on ancestry through. There is also a Carrie Kachermeyer who died at age 12 in 1905 who may also be part of this family. Joseph did register for the World War I draft. His record lists an address of 79 Water st fredonia, has a wife and child, and worked as a machinist in Dunkirk. Could he have been a war casualty? The WWI years for the newspaper are not online. She is listed as Delnora in the cemetery records, but in other records she is listed as Delnoria, twin sister of Victoria. They are found in the 1860 and 1870 census records for French Creek with parents Joseph and Sarah Belknap. Joseph, born about 1819 in Pennsylvania, was a blacksmith. His wife, Sarah, was born about 1825 in New York State. In 1880 Joseph and Sarah lived next door to William and Delnoria Schreus. That census record says that Joseph was born in PA and his parents were born in NY; Sarah was born in NY as were her parents; Delnoria was born in PA. In IGI records at the Family Search site, is this: Delnoria and Victoria were born 4 June 1854 the daughters of Joseph Belknap, born about 1820, and Sarah McKay, born 13 September 1824. Joseph and Sarah married 7 September 1851. Sarah died 30 November 1892. Whoever posted that information seemed to think that the family was of the Albany, NY area. Hope this helps a bit.
