It contains very surprising news! I was in Jamestown this summer and went to the beautiful cemetery where Orpha's son is buried hoping that maybe she was buried near him, but no luck. The amazing news is that she is buried in W. Webster Cemetery where many of her family members are buried! But she has no stone apparently. I will check with the cemetery sexton to see what he has to say. Half the cemetery are my relatives, and after searching for Orpha all these years, she may have been right under my feet all the time. Her older brother, Thomas F. Bancroft is buried there and he is my ancestor. I can't tell you how grateful I am for this obituary. It also tells me her daughter, Amelia Shepard, was dead(which I suspected) and her husband, Charles Chase, from whom it appears she was estranged. Sincerely yours, Phyllis Stehm The Woodlands, Texas Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I obtained Susan Edwards' death cert from NY State Dept of Health, Vital Records Section. It confirms her parents were Jabez Harrington and Lydia Skiff. She was born July 4, 1806 in Sangerfield, Madison County, now within Oneida. I see Jabez in Chenango 1800, and Oneida in 1810 - probably the same place as these counties were being formed at the time. The family moved to Pomfret in 1817 - http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~nychauta/HISTORY/Early-settlers.htm On the death cert, Lydia's name could be Skiff or Shiff, but in 1820, a James Skiff family lives next door to Jabez and Lydia in Pomfret. James' age suggests her brother, and he has a large pedigree on WorldConnect - http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=PED&db=ronmay&id=I07532 To amend the family I listed before, there was another daughter: 0. ? , b.1800-1804, m ? and the youngest son, 6., was "Hial" or "Abigial" or "Abijah" who married Viola ? ~1845 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
