Hi - is there a spot that has old land documents on the web? I know of the BLM one, but they aren't going to post anything from the Colonies which means no NY. I know the KY site and VA is usually in the Library of VA site. Anything for NY? I'm trying to figure these two Richard's out http://www.archive.org/details/biographicalport00dill "Biographical & Portrait Cyclopedia Chautauqua County, New York with a historical sketch of the county" by Obed Edson, (c) 1891 on page 152, Charles M. DOUGLASS is the grandson of Richard (b. CT) who didn't own more than 50 acres in Dunkirk, Chautauqua county, NY - son of Zattu (b in VT) and Elizabeth FRAZIER on page 154, George B. DOUGLASS is the grandson of Richard (b CT) who owned 750 acres in Chautauqua county, NY - son of Arnold (b. CT) and Nancy BALDWIN thanks for any and all help!

I have asked my aunt. but she's 86 years old...lives in ohio...and doesn't remember too much from back then. Her Father left her mother when she was about 6 years old. My aunt got dumped off at St. Mary's Assylum. two of her brothers got dumped at St. Joes. and her mother took up employement in the laundry room at st. joe's. She doesn't remember much about living in Fredonia. only at the orphange, and she doesn't like to talk much about that. and when she was old enough...she moved to ohio to get away from all of it. Her sister got dumped off at their grandfather's in Rochester. When I get a chance I'll go throught he Observer index at barker. thanks again!! Luckily, I am in the area of most of my ancestry, so it has been easy and fun for me. If you are looking for information, just post on one of the boards, and I'm sure someone will respond. I've researched lots of information (mainly obits) for lots of people. All part of a genealogist's RAOGK (Random Acts Of Genealogical Kindness). There is a great library in Westfield, NY, down from Mayville that has a lot of information. Also, Prendergast Library in Jamestown, NY, may have something you're looking for. Your best bet would be to start at the courthouse. Good luck. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
