The Fredonia Censor of 26 June 1844 has a list of marriages for the previous week which includes the following: Erastus R. Mead married Marilla Cooley on 23 June 1844 in Pomfret (Chautauqua Co. NY), by W. Gifford, Esq. Erastus was born 21 August 1821 in Roxbury, Delaware Co. NY and died in Civil War action in L"Anguelle's Ferry, Arkansas on 2 August 1862. He had a second marriage just before the War. The parents of Marilla Cooley are still unknown to me. However, her father is almost certainly the son of Abner Cooley, Rev. War Vet. My guess is Asher Cooley, but Harman and Elias are also possible judging by pre-1850 census record interpretations. Do you have good info about her brothers? We need to find the death certificate for Marilla to confirm parents. Where should we look? Have you check Woodbury Co. IA vital records? And what about Wellington Bristol who was previously married to Harriet Moss and had a child Elizabeth. Where and when did he die? The date and place of death of Julia Ann Mead Huntley is also a mystery. Need clues from you. I'm LWZ1@ Cornell.edu and would welcome email correspondence. The only information that we have been told, by a source that seems to have some conflicting data,is that Mead went to the war and never returned. We do not know where Marilla and Wellington married. We do not know where Wellington died. Marilla apparently remarried late in life--died in South Dakota, Julia Ann supposedly died in Missouri, but we do not have adequate confirmation to totally believe that. What else do you have regarding Marilla and E. Mead. Marriage license??, census data prior to 1885??, parents name and location re Marilla and Mead--would love to know. I find that there are several Julia Mead names that fairly closely match her probable birth date, but they don't seem to be the correct ones. Hope you will share more -- and we can perhaps also round out a few details for you. Ron L J Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Also, when and where did Wellington and Marilla Bristol and Marilla's daughter Julia Ann Mead Huntley die? They were in Woodbury Co. IA for the 1885 IA census. Julia's husband Truman Huntley died there on Oct. 6, 1909 and is buried in the Correctionville cemetery. The 1917 WWI registration of a grandson indicates that Julia was living in SD at the time. Carr, Davis Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.chautauqua/9713.1.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Thank you for your reply. After searching for some months I found a message about Pearl Nora Davis. I was pretty sure this was my grandfather's sister. He used the last name Tenney although my Mom was told he was really a Davis. Pearl's son through the SS office found out the Pearl's parents were Claude Leo Davis and Sarah Catherine Kennedy. Sara was from Elk County PA. I found a Claude Davis living as a boarder in St. Marys in Elk County in the 1900's. What made me believe that Claude was Clinton Davis's son was he stated on the census his parents were from New York and someone's family tree (The Bruce Family Tree on ancestry.com) has his father as Clinton Davis and C. Shearman or Sherman from Chautauqua Co and that he was married to Sarah Catherine Kennedy from Elk Co. PA. It also said he was born in Tidioute, PA. in 1876 or 1877. It must be a mistake and it is a different Claude Davis. The one thing I know for sure is that Pear Nora and John Ransom Davis are brother and sister. Her son from Kansas is coming to visit this Friday and we will compare notes. He had a picture of my grandfather when he was about eighteen and I had one when he was about 35 and it is the same man. I think how they ended up with the Tenney's is that Victoria Tenney was a Hartman from Elk Co. PA and Sarah Kennedy Davis's mother was Mary Hartman from the same county. Thank you for any help you can provide. I really do appreciate it. Connie Lambert Crowl Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. The first time that I received this information was in 1997 from a relation, Winslow T. Shearman. He wrote, "Claude Davis was born about 1876. He died age 14 in Tidioute, Warren Co., PA." My second souce is the newspaper, Warren Ledger, which had his obit, stating that Claude P. Davis died at Tidioute, on 16 Sep tember 1890 aged 14 years..." Last night when I read your message I checked to see if I could still find that newspaper obit in the Warren Ledger from my souce on-line and found it. Now, this morning while I am writing this to you, I was going to save a copy of the obit and offer to send it to you but now I cannot find it which is really what you need to confirm it. I will try again later. The names John Ransom Davis & Pearl Nora Davis don't ring a bell, I am sorry to say. Neither does the Tenney surname in relation to the Davis family. Can you let me know how the connection to Claude Davis, the son of Clinton Davis and Cynthia Ann Shearman was established? I am curious now. - Ed Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Do the names John Ransom Davis, Aug. 4, 1902 or Pearl Nora Davis May 5, 1908 ring a bell with you. They were raised by Sanford Arl Tenney and Victoria Hartman Tenney in Randolph Co.
