I find your name everywhere I look in Chautauqua County. It has made my search much easier. The reason that I believe Polly was not actually Truman & Lydia's is that in both the census's for 1900 (Polly M Hamilton living with Clark) and 1920 (Clark & Minnie's record) her county of origin says "Canada Eng" and "Canada/English". It doesn't seem likely that there would have been so much a distinction if she were the daughter of natural born US citizens, who "happen" to be in Canada when she was born. I would love to believe that she was, in fact, the blood daughter of Truman and Lydia... she is my family's link to the Mayflower descendants. Please contact me directly at swest@velocityelec.com Do you know if there were any Marriage records at this period of time? Thanks again for all your work. That is which John Sprague did she marry. (1) Up until about 1810 there was ample evidence that the Coe family were in and around Norway New York. (2) In 1815 there was a John Coe (painter) and a Noble Coe (tavernkeeper) in Skanateles, Onondaga, NY (3) In 1820 a Noble Coe and a Lois Coe were found in Marcellus, Onondaga, NY. There was a John S. Sprague there as well. A John Coe and a John Coe Jun. were found in Sempronius, Cayuga, NY. (4) In 1825 John Coe (and John Jr.) were in Chautauqua. (5) In 1830 Matilda Sprague as head of family was with 2 boys between 5 and 10 in Barre, Orleans, NY very close to the family of two Sprague sisters (Curtis and Dascomb) and the family of a Vine Sprague (6) In 1835 Matilda Sprague and two boys were in Chautauqua not far from her parents. (7) In 1850 Matilda and son Horace were in Vienna, IL with her sister Esther(Hadazsah)and her son Addison Moore. (8) Between 1860 and 1880 Matilda is in Minnesota with or near Horace and his family. (9) Matilda died April 1886 at Pine Lake, Oter Tail, MN. (10) The Torrey Families of America published in the 1920s indicates that Hoarce Edward Sprague who married Nancy Emily Torrey was the son of John Sprague and Matilda Coe. (11) A Curtis researcher in a LDS process in the 1930s indicated that John Sprague was the son of Vine Sprague and Mary Sherwin. (John's sister Irene married Ezra St. John Curis) Problem: The John Sprague with think Matilda married is claimed by many other researchers to have married a Linda Beecher. This is also the marriage reported in the 1913 sprague Families in America. Help!! We'd appreciate suggestions on where to look for marriage information on Matilda and John and where to look for birth information on Horace.
