In order to own land the person had to file a deposition that he is a resident in, and intends to become a citizen of the United States as soon as he can be naturalized and he has applied to obtain naturalization. About 23 Feb 1838 David Huddleston made this deposition in Chautauqua County, New York. I would like to have a copy of this deposition. I understand these depositions were filed in the office of the Secretary of State of New York. Has anyone on the list obtained one of these depositions? I would appreciate advice as to how to obtain the deposition made by David Huddleston. BENSON, a prosperous farmer and land owner of the town of Ellicott, was born in Sweden, 3 Feb 1854, son of Bentz Benson & his wife, Inga Cajsa (Olson) Benson. He was educated in Swedish schools, & all his active years have been devoted to farming. He came to the US in 1873, & made Chautauqua Co his home. He owns his farm in the town of Ellicott, & has won an honorable name & standing among his neighbors of the town. He is a Republican in politics, a member of the Patrons of Husbandry, & of the 1st Lutheran Church of Jamestown. Mr. Benson married, in Jamestown, 31 Dec 1878, Christine Lyon, born in Sweden, 26 Dec 1847, daughter of Sven Isaac & Bertha (Peterson) Lyon, both born in Sweden. Mr. & Mrs. Benson are the parents of 2 daughters & 1 son: Anna Matilda, born 2 May 1880; Minnie Elizabeth, born 23 Apr 1882; and Oscar Emil, born 14 Mar 1885.
