A lifelong area resident, she was born June 20, 1922, in Sherman, the daughter of Herman E. and Ethel M. Pettit Bates. She was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School, and along with her first husband, she owned and operated the Maple Leaf Restaurant from 1947 to 1957 and The Apple Inn from 1957 until retiring in 1989. She attended Christ First United Methodist Church. She was also the past president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Chautauqua County Beverage Dealers Association, state secretary of the United Restaurant Association, a delegate to the National Restaurant Association and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons and Jamestown Senior Citizens. She will be remembered by her many friends and customers for her wonderful organ and piano music that she played at The Apple Inn for their enjoyment. She also enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and her knitting for family and friends. She loved playing cards with her friends of many years. She is survived by a son, Thom E. Shagla of Bemus Point; two daughters: Christine M. Emborsky and Nancy L. Shagla Destro, both of Jamestown; five grandchildren; Stephanie E. Shagla of Charlotte, N.C., and Michael D. Sampson, Marcy L. Kightlinger, Christopher T. and Anthony D. Destro II, all of Jamestown; and a brother, Robert E. Bates of Livingston, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Chris T. Shagla, whom she married Aug. 16, 1942, and who died April 16, 1995, and her second husband, Homer E. Stennett, whom she married June 14, 1996, and who died Aug. 6, 2001. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

A Lakewood resident since 1983, she was born in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Edward and Pauline Seigel Allemang. Mrs. Schuler was a Wave in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She was the wife of Paul R. Schuler, whom she married Dec. 30, 1945. During the summer Mrs. Schuler was the manager of William Baker Hotel in Chautauqua Institution from 1974 to 1978. She also co-owned the Schuler-Muhl Advertising Agency in Pittsburgh for five years and worked as an advertising specialist for several department stores in the Pittsburgh area. She was a member of Christian Science House of Chautauqua Insitution, where she organized the annual lecture; First Church of the Christian Science, Jamestown, where she was the First Reader, a Sunday school teacher and organized the Mary Baker Eddy Exhibit, which established the church's historical status. She was also a member of Lakewood Community Development Corp., Women's Club, Great Decisions, Fortnightly and served on the board of Lakewood library. She was a passionate Chautauquan, where one could find her listening to symphonies and lectures just days before her passing. She advocated lifelong learning, education and love of the arts and politics. As a valued member of her community, she worked tirelessly over the years for many causes and organizations. She was instrumental in the Lakewood Beautification Project. As a wife, mother, Christian Scientist and community activist she was loved by many and will be dearly missed. Besides her husband, she was survived by a son, Richard Schuler of Greenhurst; a daughter, Janice Schuler of Greenhurst; a grandson, Paul Schuler of Greenhurst; a sister, Norma Hadley of LaHabra, Calif.; and a brother William "Buzzy" Allemang of Pittsburgh. A memorial service will be held at a later date. No visitation will be observed.

He was lineman-foreman for the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities Electric Division, where he was employed for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a member of Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, and was a founding member of Busti Historical Society. He is survived by two daughters: Mary J. Sienkiewicz of Amherst and Dana M. Whitmore of Jamestown; a grandson, John M. Whitmore of Jamestown; three sisters: Josephine O'Connor of Durham, N.C., Helen Hartwig of Franklinville and Marian Smith of Middletowne, Pa.; and a brother, Joseph Seine of Anna Maria, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy A. Botka Sienkiewicz, whom he married May 24, 1952, and who died Aug. 30, 1994; and two brothers: Victor Seine and Leo Sienkiewicz. Burial will be in Busti Cemetery.

Va. He was born in Jamestown, Jan. 15, 1944, and was graduated from Cassadaga Valley Central School in 1962. Before entering the service, he was employed at the Ring Punch and Dye Division, Producto Machine Co., Jamestown. Besides his parents, brother and grandmother, he is survived by another brother, Kyle Sharp, at home; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Sophia Bennett, Jamestown. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Jordan Funeral Home, Sinclairville,. The Rev. Roger B. Smith, pastor of the Centralia Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Red Bird Cemetery.

He enjoyed woodworking and had made several things out of wood. He enjoyed singing and had sung in the church choir, where he sang the Gregorian Chant, the ancient chant of the Catholic Church. Besides his parents of Dewittville, he is survived by 10 sisters: Lorene Hoitink of Mayville, Sister Jean Dominque (Regina) of Post Falls, Idaho, Larisa Beck of Arcadia, Calif., Sister Marie Germaine (Mary) of St. Mary’s, Kan., Sister Marie Theophane (Janet) of Brussels, Belgium, Bernice Beck of Browerville, Minn., Rachel and Gemma Beck, both of Newton Falls, Ohio, and Greta and Theresa Beck, both of Dewittville; six brothers: Paul Beck of Lawrenceville, N.Y., the Rev. Gerard Beck of Kansas City, Mo., Vincent Beck of Wales, Mich., Adam Beck of Newton Falls, and Marcel and Jerome Beck, both of Dewittville; and his maternal grandmother, Lois Boush of Williamsport, Pa. He was preceeded in death by his maternal grandfather, Harold Bierman; and his paternal grandparents. Lawrence and Bernice Beck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Stanislaus Church, 123 Townsend St., Buffalo. The Rev. Gerald Beck, his brother, will be celebrant. I found a school tax list which covered time between census and he had a "mother" or "step mother" Sarah living with him at the time. So we need a Sarah Dodge living possibly in Erie County. ( I live in Erie btw) Glad you posted this obit!
