Surnames: Horton, Love Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SRB.2ACE/1571.1577.1.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Just thought I'd post an update on my Horton family mystery. I received a copy of a guardianship probate for Emery P. Horton from Olmsted Co., MN which names his guardian as Dana P. Horton. I believe both men are half-brothers, and both sons of Charles D. Horton. I also received a probate for Charles D. Horton from Olmsted Co., MN, and it states that he died on 17 Nov. 1856. In addition to the seven children he had with current wife Philetta, the probate named two sons by a former wife (not named), Dana and Reuben. Emery Horton was not named as his child yet I believe Charles Horton fathered Emery as a result of his relationship with Margaret Love. I've found that there was a Dana P. Horton who served in the Union army and died 27 Dec. 1897...could this be the same Dana who was named guardian of Emery Horton? Does someone have Dana's death certificate or obituary to see if it names his parents as Charles Horton and Charlotte Shepardson? I'm wondering why Dana was named guardian if Emery's mother Margaret Love was still living as of the date on the probate, which was 3 Feb. 1873...and Emery had already married in Lake Co., IL on 8 Jan. 1872. As of the 1870 Census, Emery was a single man living in Lake Co., IL with Reuben and Roxy Shepardson, who just happen to be the parents of Charles Horton's first wife, Charlotte. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you, Lisa Hopp Seattle, WA

    3. Shell -- Your question about the Halletts brought back a few memories for me. Many years ago, my first big assignment as a reporter for the Erie (PA) Morning News was covering Susan Hallett's trial. The boss sent me to Mayville because I was a Jamestown native. Although I didn't really know her, Susan had graduated two years ahead of me from Jamestown High School. I had forgotten many of the details, but found some in my old clippings. The murders occurred during the weekend of February 10, 1973. The victims were Robert Hallett, 49, a well-to-do businessman; his second wife, Grace Hallett, 39; and their 8-year old daughter Ann. All three were shot execution-style. Soon after, police charged Susan Hallett, 24, Robert's daughter by his first wife Alice; her boyfriend, Richard Parrish, 28; and a friend, Aaron Hale. All three lived in Detroit. The state argued that Susan had arranged a burglary at her father's home, and that Parrish actually shot all three family members. Hale claimed to have witnessed the slayings, and got a deal from the prosecution to testify against the other two. Susan and Richard claimed that Hale had done the shooting. Susan was convicted of felony murder (murder during the commission of another felony) and Richard of first-degree manslaughter. I'm not positive, but I vaguely recall hearing she had been released from prison. If there's something in particular you want to know about the case, let me know and I'll see what I can find. If you have access to the Jamestown Post-Journal, you'd find the crime stories beginning about Feb. 12 or 13, 1973, and the trial stories around Jan. 11, 1974. Sue Hurley Corbran

Their son David Lincoln was born near attica in Batavia County but he also fathered another child with Elizabeth Dorman while there. Their were other Scotts there. Then Alfred moved to Wesfield in 1820. The censu just state a wife but no name. He was only there six months and ran off to ohio but David who would have only been ten stayed in Westfield. I am assuming with his mother becasue he was only 10 or he could have been given to someone to work out a debt. Would love to find out more information.

Surnames: Horton, Love Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/SRB.2ACE/5627.1 Message Board Post: I am responding to an old post regarding the Montague family. I'm particularly interested in the marriage of Clara Montague to Dana P. Horton. I have been pursuing the Horton genealogy for my husband's family, and I have a probate document from Olmsted Co., MN which names Dana P. Horton legal guardian of Emery P. Horton. I have been trying to determine if Dana P. Horton is the child of Charles D. Horton and Charlotte Shepardson...there is a child named Daniel P. Horton in the household of Charles D. Horton in 1850 (town of Gerry). Is this Daniel really Dana? And there is a Thomas R. Horton residing with Reuben and Roxy Shepardson in 1850 (town of Gerry) so I'm wondering if Thomas is also the son of Charles D. Horton and Charlotte Shepardson. Was this Thomas R. Horton also known as Reuben (possibly his middle name...for his maternal grandfather Reuben Shepardson?). I also have a copy of a probate for Charles D. Horton, died 17 Nov. 1856, Olmsted Co., MN. I believe thi! s Charles, who was married to Philetta at the time of his death and father to her seven children, is the same man who fathered my husband's gr-gr grandfather Emery P. Horton. I believe Emery was born as a result of Charles' relationship with Margaret Love...yet Emery's name was omitted from the probate of Charles D. Horton. I have a guardianship document that names Dana P. Horton guardian of Emery P. Horton...is it possible that these two men are half-brothers? And Charles Horton fathered children with three different women? Charlotte Shepardson, Philetta (maiden name unknown), and Margaret Love? I would be more than happy to provide copies of these probate documents to anyone wishing to further the research of the Horton family in Chautauqua Co. It's one interesting puzzle! Lisa Hopp
