Is your source also the census? If so, there may indeed be two Jacob Ciesielskis and mine was not the one who purchased land in IL.

Hi Hal, The types of records you are looking for are official records and held in various locations. Land Records, Deeds, Grantor/Grantee Indexes and Mortgages, Mortgagor/Mortgagee Indexes are held in the County Clerk's Office. Wills, Administrations and Guardianships are held in the County Surrogate's Court. Those are both open records indexes and the public has free access to the indexes. Vital Records or Births, Deaths and Marriages are governed by law under the Department of Health, Division of Vital Statistics. The Indexes on microfiche are located at Albany in the State Archives Office, and in the Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo Libraries, and also a set at the NY City Branch of the National Archives, and are used with strict regulations. Once you find the item you are looking for, and they are cataloged by year/alpha, you have the choice to either order a copy from Albany or go the the Town or City Clerk where the event took place and attempt to get a copy there. It is usually easier and faster to get it locally, Albany is usually backed up several months. I have some papers on the subject on my website under Basic Genealogy and under Land Records, they might also help you. Good luck and have fun. Trying to find all of Ben's siblings which in turn hopefully will help me find my great great great grandmother's info. A Finies Palmer.. My grandfather Lewis Percy married Finies in between the census records of 1880 and 1900 and in 1888 she dies after giving birth to her second child, but in 1880 Lewis was living with Benjamin Palmer as a boarder with Lewis's father and sister Emma Percy Collins who later married Benjamin.. but alas no Finies living with them... a great big wheel but missing some spokes!!! Tammy, I believe the niece [daughter] is named Cora rather than Cosa. The last name Langus does seem unusual, but in 1880 there are 15 by that name and each census year after more than the preceding years. You might also look for "Langers" or 'Sangers" as in looking over the 1880 census page, many times L and S are the same or similar and there seems to be no consistency to how the enumerator formed the letters. Going back to the 1870 census there is an Almina Palmer, age 18, b. NY living in Catskill, Greene Co., NY in the family of Oliver and Henrietta Palmer. There is another Almina Palmer in Oneida Co. but she is too old, age 37 in 1870. There are four Alminas in 1900 in Chaut. Co. but none the right age.
