Gerrit Willem Hesselink (b.1807) was a son of Gerrit Hendrik Hesselink who was born 27 July 1781 in Aalten, Gelderland, and Janna Rademaker. Gerrit Hendrik was a son of Gerrit Willem Hesselink and Aleida ter Haar. Adolph Hesselink, born about 1812 in Aalten, was a brother of the younger Gerrit Willem. Adolph married with Johanna Maria Bruggink, who was born about 1821 in Wisch, Netherlands. I think they were the parents of Wesselina, born about 1845, and Johanna, born about 1849, both in Clymer while Adolph was serving as a pastor to the newly arrived immigrants from the Netherlands. Around 1850 Adolph and his family left Clymer and moved to Muscatine, Iowa. Not long after that he died of cholera aboard a steamship on the Mississippi River.

I know that Gerrit Hendrik (1838) married the widow, Olive Burch Stone (11 Oct 1840-19 Feb 1920) in Fredonia, New York. They migrated to Menomonie, Wi. I found this story of Dorcas Newhouse very interesting. The "Burch Book" mentions the shipwreck during the immigration experience of her brother, Gerrit Hendrik, but did not provide as much detail as her story does.

Illustrated Historical Atlas of the County of Chautauqua, New York. New York: Frederick W. Beers Co., 1881. Copies are located in Fredonia at the Darwin R. Barker Library as well as the Daniel A. Reed Library of SUNY Fredonia. In maps of each town, houses are indicated by black polygons corresponding to the shape of the house. Each polygon is labeled with the name of the property owner. In reviewing the 1880 Census for the Town of Hanover in 2001, I noticed that the census taker had numbered the houses in rank order as he encountered them on his peregrinations. In 2005, some of these houses do not have house numbers.

    3. I was handed down the family history of John DeMott and his family from a distant cousin. In 1876 Lorenzo DeMott the youngest child held a family reunion on the family farm. The farm had been in the family since about 1809. Those attending the reunion were: My great great great grandmother, Maria DeMott Schofield (age 79) from Fremont Township, Iowa, Sally DeMott or Lorinda DeMott Smith( age 76), Susan DeMott Lennox (age 65) from Sinclairville, Amy DeMott Love Woods (age 60) from Pomfret, and Lorenzo DeMott of Ellery. I have a copy of part of the newspaper article that was printed in the paper at that time. I do not know which paper it was and would love to get the whole article. Here is part of the article: "The table was spread with the choicest delicacies of the season, in the old yard back of the house under apple trees which came from seeds sown by John DeMotte sixty-six years ago (!1810) and some of the trunks were ? feet in diameter, with large spreading limbs loaded with lucious fruit. About sixty people gathered around the table, representing three generations and three sets of twins. The oldest were of the original family of John DeMotte and were his youngest children." Most of the article was gone but Lorinda, Maria, Susan, Amy, and Lorenzo were listed as well as another sister and that sister's husband. The only other sister who could be living at that time would be Sally. John and Susannah (Susan) Skinner DeMott(e) had three sons and eight daughters. Jo Ann Clark Midland, Texas
