The Shermans were married into these Bristols, and Of course that name was given to Rev. Ira Sherman Bristol. I will have to investigate any connection of the UGRR Silas Sherman to the Bristol related Shermans. The only name associated with my Bristols that I can find much information about relating to the UGRR is Pettibone. Lester Shepard Bristol's wive Anzolette Cleland had a sister Lydia who married William Sylvester Pettibone, son of Titus Pettibone, and Titus Pettibone's participation in the UGRR is well documented. It is interesting that one of the sons of Lester Bristol and Anzolette Cleland gives his mother's name as "Adelaide Pettibone". I suspect that Lester may have married a Pettibone related to his sister-in law, after his wife's untimely death that left him with five small children. UGRR families tended to intermarry because of the dangerous nature of the enterprise. Thanks for the information you provided to me. It will give me a number of names to work with.
