I have been trying to determine the parentage or ancestry of one Henry C. Campbell for some time. He md. into a Mallory line I am researching. The Mallorys lived in Westfield in the early and mid-1800s, so there might be a connection. This Henry had a daughter named Delia or Adelia. He also had a son called Bert or Burt and at least one other son who died young and is buried in NE. Do you think there might be a connection? Does the name Henry or the state of Nebraska ring any bells re your Campbells? Below is about all I have on Henry: Henry C. Campbell md. Frances F. Mallory on 8 Nov 1856 in Cuyahoga County, Ohio. (Some of the Mallorys had moved there from Westfield.) Frances was the daughter of Isaac and Amy (Briggs) Mallory of Westfield, Chautauqua Co., NY. I don't know where Henry was from. Henry C. Campbell is buried in Arlington, Washington Co., NE. He was a postmaster, justice of the peace, and deputy marshal. He was the first warden of the State Penitentiary in Lincoln, NE when he died in 1873. He also owned land in Washington, Dodge, and Burt Cos. and was a partner in businesses in Lincoln and North Platte. In the 1870 census, he was living in Fontenelle Pct., Washington Co. NE. -- "G. Hi George, I have been researching my husband's 3 gr grandfather,Eleazar Campbell for many years. He was born in PA and as far as we know lived in Erie County PA, close to where your folks were in NY. He was born around 1830 and listed his parents as Michael and Polly Smith Campbell. He married Sarah Hazen, whose family came from Mina NY, but she was raised by her aunt,Ida Mattocks Pope, in the town of Northeast PA. That is all the information I have on him so I would be very pleased if you could find a connection to your folks there. Karen Downing

Illston called and will investigate the case. Coroner B. F. Illston was called early this morning to Watts Flats, where the mangled remains of a man had been found beside the Erie railroad tracks. Dr. Illston learned that the remains had been identified as those of a Niobe resident named Andrew Carlson. He authorized Justice of the Peace Arthur L. Richardson of Watts Flats to investigate, and permit the removal of the remains, and issue the necessary death certificate. Coroner Illston will make a further investigation. (Special to The Journal.) Watts Flats, Feb. 19,---The remains of Andrew Carlson of Niobe were found about 7:40 this morning beside the Erie railroad tracks a half mile west of Watts Flats station, by section men going out to work. Coroner B.F. Illston, and Justice of the Peace Arthur L. Richardson were notified, and Mr. Richardson made an investigation. The remains were identified by several persons who knew Mr. Carlson. It was learned that he left Niobe Sunday to visit friends near Watts Flats, and that he had been in the habit of walking on the tracks frequently between the two villages. It was not learned what train hit him, but it was evident that he had been struck and hurled from the track. Mr. Carlson was a well known resident of Niobe. He lived with his daughter, Mrs. Ida Ballard at that place, and was about 67 or 68 years old. His wife has been dead for some years, and he is survived by four sons and the daughter with whom he lived. The sons are Oscar of Elgin, Pa., Carl of Chicago, Earl of Watts Flats, and Edgar, who lives in Niobe, but is not at home at present. One brother living in the west, and perhaps others residing in Sweden survive. The funeral arrangements will not be made until the son in Chicago can be heard from.* (Jamestown Evening Journal, Monday, Feb. 19, 1917, page 5.) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ *FUNERAL OF MR. A major thrust of the campaign is for the village to reconnect with the descendants of families for whom Rockford is an ancestral home. "The campaign offers these descendants a real opportunity to preserve for future generations of their families their heritage and their home," says Ms. Hannah Holyfield, President of the society. "We are going to work with genealogical groups and with ancestry sites on the Internet to reach out to descendants who may have only minimal knowledge about their ancestors' lives here but would like to know more. We plan to contact these descendants and ask them to help us restore the village and then, literally, to come back home." The culmination of the "Remember Rockford" campaign will be a Remember Rockford Families Reunion to be held in 2009. The reunion date will be set in the coming months.
