Hansen Neil F. Hansen, 89, of 504 Fairmount Ave., formerly of 551 Lakeview Ave., died Tuesday (Dec. 15, 1998) in Heritage Green Health Care Center. He was born Oct. 16, 1909, in Jamestown, as son of Herman and Ella Johnson Hansen. He was a 1929 graduate of Jamestown High School and prior to retirement was employed as a salesman/purchasing agent by several companies, including the Truck-Lite Corp., Carborundum Co. and Jamestown Finishing Products. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, member and past president of the Young Republicans Club, an organizer and first president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and a life member of the Elks BPOE No. 263, where he had served as an Exalted Ruler. He was also a charter member of the Chautauqua Lake Association, where he had served as secretary for 18 years. Surviving are two daughters: Carol Chapel of Fairport, N.Y. and Barbara Williams of Cheyenne, Wyom.; four grandchildren: Steven Chapel of Wilmington, Del., Timothy Chapel, Wilmington, N.C., Grant Williams, Denver, Colo., and Kathryn Williams of Chicago. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Phyllis Johnson, whom he married April 30, 1936, and who died Nov. 12, 1987; and his stepmother, Alice McGinity Hansen, who had raised him. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua Lake Association or the Roger Tory Peterson Institute. The Lind Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The general impression was that the family cared little for society; That his condition was not generally known til a few days before his death. Edwin FAULKNER and Edmond WELLMAN watched with him on the night of his death, a terrible night of rain and flood, and A. H. WOODARD wint to prepare him for funeral. No further help could be summoned as the roads were flooded and the bridges were dangerous to cross at night and the rains occured in torrents. The funeral was held from his home,he was 62 yrs of age, he leaves a wife and 1 son, MARCUS about 30 married who will inherit considerable property left by his father . Mr Cassety came to this place in an early day from Oriskany Oneida CO NY, and settled on a farm on the Lake Road. Of his descendants, only 2 remain, James who was educated at Harvard and is now a professor at Albany and Thomas who remains at the old home caring for the aged mother and keeping the property which the father had acquired.
