Michael Baugher/Bauher according to the usgenweb site states Michael was the first person buried in the Allen cemetery, 1815. My Michael died 1842. There are two Michael Baughers buried there. I have all census data, Michael's will, his notice of probate from surrogate A. Smith. All childrens names The lot my Baugher's are in also contain Arnold and Daniel Hill, Elias Hyde, Carl H. Pearson, Michael Bauher, d. 1815, and Michael Bauher, Jr., no dates. A daughter Hester/Esther married Moses Kortwright(various spellings) in Poland. A son Michael married Charlotte Waggoneer, probably in Poland, this Michael stayed in Crawford co, PA, died 1889 and is buried Tryonville Cem. Don't know where Moses and Hester are buried, but they stayed in the Poland area. Any chance of finding my Baugher's at Allen cem.? Your help and direction are ernestly appreciately. MONTCALM COUNTY, MICHIGAN SOME OF THE EARLY SETTLERS The permanent settlemen of Maple Valley township began in 1858 when Heber Cowden, with his family, settled on the northwest fractional quarter of Section 11. He was a native of Washington County, New York, whence he came direct to Jackson County, Michigan, in 1835, where he continued to reside until 1858. On coming to Maple Valley he built a cabin and began a clearing and continued to reside on this land until his death, in 1862. His death was the first in the township. Mr Cowden was a well, hearty man, but one day, coming into the house from his work, complained of feeling ill, and in five minutes he died of heart disease. The funeral took place at his cabin. He was buried on his own land, near the lake, in a beautiful spot. also from the previous page in this history, it lists the following landowners on Section 11: Allen Wright, Heber Cowden, Abel T. I have a grandfather who was Karl Oskar Gustafsson Rosén, born in Orebro or Nora about 1868 then immigrated to the US about 1880. It is an interesting story as his name was originally Gustafsson but his parents divorced, and his mother and siblings all took the name Rosén. This was said to be a French name from his mother's side of the family (which always seemed to strange that there would be French in Sweden), but it was said that it where they received their dark eyes and hair from. In our family they have used Rosen, but other cousins have used Rosain, which is supposed to be closer to the actual pronunciation. Any information you have on the Rosén name in Sweden would be most interesting, even if it's difficult to find a direct connection. I had previously seen the Alms House web pages, that indicate his burial place is NG. It is hard to imagine that his burial in the poor house cemetery, CF,would be unknown to the record keeper. Are you certain that there was no other cemetery at Chautauqua NY, known as the Chautauqua County Cemetery? I have also seen the 1892 and 1900 censuses to which you refer. What is your source for the last data, listing some of his children? It looks a bit like the Canadian Census of 1861, Stephen Township, Huron County, Canada West but that census didn't give Martha's middle name and it names the "unknown female". They had two daughters: Flora O. Jackson, b. about March 1851 (probably in Chautauqua Co.), who married John O. Flynn (or Flinn) about 1869, who was a dentist in Harvard, McHenry, Illinois and Sun Prairie, Dane, Wisconsin. Florence Lucy Jackson, b. 28 January 1854 (probably in Chautauqua Co.), who married Thomas Fisher McKee about 1872. Her husband died in Bloomville, Seneca, Ohio on 18 January 1897 and she died in Cleveland, Cuyahoga, Ohio on 29 May 1915. Both Florence and Thomas are buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Bloomville. I think Flora and John Flinn (Flynn) might be buried in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; John apparently died between 1910 and 1920, with Flora still living in Sun Prairie according to the 1920 census. What is the state of marriage records in Chautauqua county from 1800 to 1850? It would be interesting to document all of Isaac's marriages.
