<< There are some later directories up at the NY USgenwebs _http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycayuga/directry/index.htm_ (http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycayuga/directry/index.htm) >> Thank you for posting this web site. The directory places a number after the name of each person who is a farmer. Does this number refer to a parcel of land? If not, does anyone know what the number signifies? I found my great, great grandfather in working there in Union Springs in 1867-68. I knew he was there in 1865, but up until today, the next record I could find was in Chicago 1880. I am hoping to learn when he left Cayuga County and when he arrived in Chicago. Another question -- if a family was moving from Cayuga County to Chicago in the 1868-1880 time frame, what mode of transportation would they normally use -- train, Great Lakes boat, surface roads? If surface roads, do you think they would travel north or south of Lake Erie? Thank you. Pat **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music.
