I am not sure if you recieved this yesterday, because right in the middle of it, I was cut off. grrrrr! 1800 Census name mispelled Hanshett Cayuga County (I found my ancestor Cornelius Bodine spelled Bordwine) Sempronius Isaac Hanshett . . 1 2 . 1 . 1 . . Town of Locke early records of earmarks of animals (each settler was required to notch the ears of his cattle, swine sheep, so they could be identified.) 1802 - 1842 Cyrus Henchett The towm of Locke begins at the line of the town of Moravia. I searched the church records, and the other items pertaining to Locke but found no further record of him. 1963 publication of "Moravia and its Past" by Leslie Luther (Moravia is next to Locke) " Storke states that a man by the name of Hanchett was the first one there .(In Dresserville in Sempronius) and built a house which we figure stood across from the end of the road to Montville , about where Howard Fuller (1963) now lives.Hanchett soon left because of his wifes fear of the wolves." In other words, Isaac Hanchett was the pioneer settler of what is now called Dresserville. As the Owasco Historian, I checked all my Cuykendall, Koyken dall ,Coykendall, Kirkendall files and found no mention of Orson Cuykendall. I think perhaps he is related to the Jotham Cuykendall of Moravia, for I cannot find him in the Owasco records. Jotham had a drinking problem..The early store account books shows him buying whisky daily- sometimes 2 - 3 times a day at the Luther Brothers Store. He almost lost his land, until a kind Quaker by the name of Thomas West gave Jotham Cuykendalls WIFE a mortgage. I found this information in the West family files, and the Luther Brothers books housed at the Cayuga - Owasco Lakes Historical Society in Moravia. I also went into Auburn and found the Mortgage in the books for the 1840 - 1850's. If either of these men were Revolutionary soldiers, I would be eager to update our records here. Anything you can share with me for my files, I would gladly welcome. Does this help you? Laurel Auchampaugh Owasco Historian
