So many of you have traversed Cayuga County and are familiar with the area! Tell me, how would you guess a girl, Clarissa Melissa Binnings, who was 8 years old and lived with her family in Scipio in 1850, would have met a young man named William Robinson who lived in Ashtabula Co, Ohio and run off to Pennsylvania to marry him (because she was underage, only 14). Her father worked on the Erie Canal, family tradition says as a steamboat captain, but that, I'm told, is impossible. All guesses welcome. Thank you! Marilyn Carlson
