Hi All, I have been watching the postings and find the information very interesting. I have never been to New York, but it is one of my fondest dreams to go to all of my ancestrial States and research the info first hand and see where they lived. But I won't be able to for now and not in the forseeable future, how I would love to be able to attend a history research week it is a wonderful idea. Several years ago I was able to go to Nebraska (where I was born) for a family reunion and naturally had to travel almost the whole State in 4 days and see where my g-grandfather lived (Bloomfield), what a beautiful little town The trip to Nebraska was worth every cent just to be able to see the cemetery, visit with people in the retirement home who were children when my great grandfather lived, they actually knew him. I also went to the library and found him in their centennial book they had prepared, if I had not gone to the town I wouldn't have known this information even existed, plus I was able to buy the last two copies of this book at a very discounted rate from the library. There is no telling what bit of information is waiting for me on New York, considering what I was able to find from my last trip!! I live in California so it took over two days to get there by car. Bill I want to tell you how deeply I appreciate all the pictures you have been posting. What a very kind soul you are. Just by chance would you happen to have any pictures of Genoa? My ancestor Joseph W. Gamel lived there from after 1833 to before 1860. He was there with his second wife (Sarah maybe Talmadge?) in the 1840 and 1850 census. Prior to 1840 he was in Washington County, Argyle Township with his first wife (Isabel Gillis) who died in 1833. Does anybody know anything about Genoa and what type of records are available? I Would like to get a marriage license for Joseph and Sarah (married after 1833 probably before 1838) if it exists and perhaps to see if Sarah died there, according to the family bible Sarah died on 11 Sep 1858 but not where? Joseph was living in Illinois with his son in 1860 he died there in 1863 and is buried there. Joseph and Sarah had 2 children Sabra E. (B: 04 Oct 1838) and Ellen Charlotte (B: 23 Dec 1851) but no death dates. Sabra and Ellen were probably born in Genoa. I have it in my records that Sabra married a Joel Pierson on June 14, 1858. I hope I have made this information understandable, it has been a looong day :) Leona [email protected]
