Yes, I'm afraid it has been typical - of my experience, at least. I've received death certificates from NYS Dept of Health well over a year after my request. I had forgotten that I'd even requested them, so they were quite a surprise when they showed up! Betsy Gorman Elmira, NY In a message dated 3/16/2005 10:18:41 P.M. After being repeatedly ignored by the Fleming town clerk, I sent a request for a death certificate copy to the NYS Health Dept Archives. I knew the date and place of death, and a list member even looked up the death certificaae number in the Index at the Syracuse Library, so I even had the certificate. I included the exorbitant fee of $26 or something. I sent that in beginning of January 2004. In August 2004, they cashed my check. At the end of January 2005, over a year from my original request, I got my death certificate. Thanks Teress
