    3. I am posting a list of Churches in Auburn, NY I have extracted from varrious sources that may be of interest to anyone searching for Marriage or Baptismal records in Auburn. Churches In Auburn, Cayuga County, NY (Auburn was originally called "Hardenburgh's Corner") >From Hall's History of Auburn published in 1869 p. 139-146, p. 419-422 >From Historical Records of a Hundred and Twenty Years by Joel H. Monroe in 1913 p. 76-106 >From History of Cayuga County 1908 Cayuga County Historical Society and Benjamin Snow p. 193-230 >From a 1928 Auburn City Directory St. Peter's Episcopal Church - West Genesee Street organized 1805 The First Presbyterian Church - corner of Franklin and North Streets organized 1810 as "The First Congregational Society" - Stone church 1869 - 1974. Steeple fell and current church built on South Street. The Baptist Church -Streets organized 1819 located on Genesee and James Street erected 1883. (First church located on South and Exchange 1825-1834; second church on Genesee Street between South and Mechanic (Now Osborne) 1835-1882) The First Methodist Church - corner of South and Exchange Streets (Old churches 1821 - 1832 on Chapel Street; second church corner of North and Water 1834 - 1867) organized 1819 The Church of the Holy Family (Roman Catholic) organized 1820. Purchased original First Methodist Church on Chapel Street in 1829. Current church erected in 1861 on North Street. The Universalist Church - corner of South and Cumpston (now Lincoln) Streets organized 1821. Purchased Baptist Church on South and Exchange in 1834. Second church on South Street erected 1847. The Second Presbyterian Church - founded 1828 located on South Street Zion Methodist Church organized in 1840 corner of West Genesee and Parker erected 1891 The Central Presbyterian Church (Separated from Second Presbyterian) organized 1861 The Disciples Church organized in 1849 as the "Congregation of Christ" - Division Street between Seymour and Van Anden Streets. Church built in 1851. St. Alphonus Church (Roman Catholic) organized in 1853. First church on Wall Street. Second Church on Water Street in 1860's purchased from the Adventists. Original families were all German. The Wall Street Methodist Church - corner of Washington and Wall Streets organized in 1854 St. Mary's Church (Roman Catholic) - Separated from Holy Family in 1868 located on Clark Street corner of Green St. John's Episcopal Church - corner of Fulton and Genesee - organized 1868 Calvary Presbyterian Church organized 1870 located on Capital Street. (Original First Presbyterian Church built in 1817 moved from Franklin Street by log rollers) Second Baptist Church organized in 1879 corner of Genesee and Owasco Streets St. Lucas German Evangelical Church organized in 1879. Church erected on Seminary Ave in 1881. Westminster Presbyterian Church organized 1884 on Williams StreetTrinity Methodist Church organized in 1885 East Genesee Street corner of Evans Emanuel Baptist Church organized 1888 located on Owasco Street St. Aloysius Church (Roman Catholic) organized 1901 on Van Anden Street St. Hyacinth's Church (Roman Catholic) organized in 1905 mainly Polish parishioners St. Francis D'Assisi (Roman Catholic) established 1908. Mostly Italian families. Churches established after 1908 or where I do not have a specific date they were founded listed in Auburn City Directory of 1928: Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church - Fitch Ave. First Church of Christ Scientist - 193 Genesee Street Congregation Benai Israel St. Nicholas Russian (Greek Orthodox) - Located on Cross Street Auburn was also home to the Presbyterian Theological Seminary founded in 1819 which operated into the twentieth century. The Willard Memorial Chapel which was part of that complex still stands today and is open to the public.
