Cayuga Co. or NY in general? I'm no expert but I suspect you'll have to try each county. If it's before 1850, look up Gertrude Barber's books, or Vosborg (spelling?), or Fred Q. Bowman. Otherwise, you'll probably have to write the county clerks. Most of these books are available from LDS on film. If you have a specific need, send it to the list and I'll see if my local library can help. -----Original Message----- From: nycayuga-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nycayuga-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Laurien Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2007 8:24 PM To: NYCAYUGA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [NYCAYUGA] WILLS Does anyone have the website for New York State wills? I am looking for information on the John West family. One source indicates that John was born in Saratoga Co., and then moved to Erie County. A second source states that John was born in Scipio, Cayuga Co, and that his father was also named John West. Both sources say that the son married Avis Bowen in 1816. In 1840, I am confident that John West and his family were in Brant, Erie Co., NY. They definitely were there in 1850. John and Avis had ten children: George; Armida; Susan; Matthew; Thomas; Elizabeth; John, Jr.; Jonathan; Sarah; and Annis (Avis?). There were as many as 3 John West heads of households in Cayuga Co. in 1800 - 1830. I found a John West family in Sempronius in the 1830 census that matches this family adding credence to the idea that they lived in Cayuga County in the early 1800's, but I was unable to match them in the 1820 census (perhaps they were living with another family at the time). What I am looking for mostly is confirmation that John West was born in Scipio, and that he lived there with his family through 1830. Any help would be appreciated.
It is time to add the 99th annual HARTER Family Reunion to your calendar. ALL descendants of the Mohawk Valley HARTERs and allied families are invited to gather Sunday, July 29th at NOON at the Lawrence Parks Recreation Area, 10726 Atlanta Back Road, Cohocton, Steuben County, New York. The park provides playground, swimming pool, and a pleasant environment for a day with family. The gate attendant will direct you to the HARTER Reunion pavilion. We hope to see many familiar faces and even more new ones. Please spread the word to all your families. Please bring eating utensils for your family and a dish to pass. A fire will be available for those who wish to bring meat to cook for their family. Lemonade will be provided. Plans are underway for the 100th annual reunion to be held in 2008. Most of these places are now state parks and open to the public. More people today and more of the "hand" of man on the landscape in the form of walkways. Kathleen wrote: >Bill. Hello everyone, I am responding to Mr. Hecht's email regarding the lack of listings on www.fingerlakes.org for Union Springs and the Ward O'Hara Agricultural Museum. Jesse, from our office, checked into this and we were told by the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance (www.fingerlakes.org) that they have no partners (i.e. members) in those areas, so there are no listings. Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance is a membership organization. For membership information, contact Mary Lou Culver, 315-536-7488.
