Bill, to the best of your knowledge, did the people of Cayuga county visit these places often? Did they celebrate these rocks and water falls or did they take them for granted? Do you have the titles of some books that tells the geological history of this area? I would appreciate it if you know of some definitive work. Yes, there are several lists. About 171 people. Try this one. http://www.rootsweb.com/~nycayuga/cem/cem69.htm The actual list changes a little depending on who did it. The early stones are missing, like John Armstrong so they don't show up in the list. I've been unable to find a ground radar system to borrow for next weekend. They can detect disturbances (digging) down to 10 feet so someday I hope to get a count of grave sites to add to the count of stones. ----- Original Message ----- From: KARL WEILER <karlsplace@sbcglobal.net> Date: Monday, May 14, 2007 11:35 am Subject: [NYCAYUGA] Wilcox's To: NYCAYUGA@rootsweb.com > Does anyone know if there is a list of wilcox names buried in the > Wilcox Cemetary? > Karl Weiler > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYCAYUGA- > request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
Does anyone know if there is a list of wilcox names buried in the Wilcox Cemetary? Karl Weiler
Hi Zane. Thanks for the note. Right now we've reduced the time to Saturday only (about 8am to dusk). The camping area has been withdrawn because the landowner had to go away that weekend, although the park nearby is suppose to be open. Also, the town is having problems with insurance because power equipment is being used. They are tying hard to resolve that and I certainly understand their position. Therefore, we don't know if the clean up is still on, delayed or what form it will take. I plan to there Saturday for sure because people are drifting by during the day to discuss the history of the area and we have other things to look at like mapping the stones and looking for an old saw mill. I can't, however, imagine cleaning an acre by hand. I'll let you know as soon as I know. Your willingness to help is impressive and inspirational albeit may be to risky to come all that way unless you have other objectives. If there is something I can do for you here in NY, let me know. Pat, My 4th great grandfather was Charles Babcock. Many of the Babcocks migrated to the Central NY area from RI and CT after the Revolutionary War. The Babcocks are all related but sometimes it is hard to find out just how. I think I contacted you about the Orman name a while ago.
