I've "rescued" an old photograph identified as Florence Lydia STRYKER HUGG which was taken at the F. B. Catton Studio in Auburn, New York. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Florence appearing to be in her 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. Based on limited research and thanks to the help of a STRYKER Family Researcher I have gathered the following information regarding Florence and her family: Florence L. STRYKER was b. 11 July 1876 in Auburn, NY, on 5 Feb 1903 she married John James HUGG in Fleming, NY and together they had two children, Harold J. HUGG and Irene M. HUGG (later Mrs. John E. GRANGER of Auburn, NY). Census records provide the following information regarding the family: 1880 census of Venice, NY: Isaac D. STRYKER, age 33, born NY, a Farmer, parents born NY Lottie A. STRYKER, wife, age 40, born NY, Keeping House, parents born NY Hattie J. Thanks for the image which is not Civil War. He is a corporal, in the full dress uniform, of the NY National Guard, ca. 1899-1902 based upon his single breasted tunic, NY staff pattern buttons, white facings, and blue-cut #2 on the collar. For reference on this see: a. Cayugans in the Field, 1792-2003 by Roger Sturcke and Anthony Gero (Jacob Press) and b. New York State National Guard by Roger Sturcke and Anthony Gero (Arcadia Press) both of which can be purchased at the Cayuga Museum, the Seward House or Creekside Books for a few sites. (Also believe Cayuga Co. Historians Office has several copies left). It a great cabinet photo by a local Auburn photographer too. Is it associated with the Carr family??? I can't claim to know anything about military uniforms but when I enlarge the picture, it looks to me as though there are anchors on the buttons-would there have been different uniforms for persons serving on ships? I am not sure how to do that without looking at original deeds. The Cayuga Co Office of Real Property or the Clerk might be able to help. good luck bill Lesley Stuart-Smith wrote: >Hi Bill, > >This is a great map - thanks! > >Is there any way of determining who lived where? > >I'm trying to track down any information I can on Manassah French and/or >Philander French (whom I believe to be father and son, or at least related). > >Thanks! > >Cheers, Lesley > >-----Original Message----- >From: nycayuga-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:nycayuga-bounces@rootsweb.com] >On Behalf Of Bill Hecht >Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2007 10:33 AM >To: Cayuga Co Historian; CAYUGA Message Board; CENTRAL NY Message Board >Subject: [NYCAYUGA] Cayuga Map1801 > > > >This is from a very crude photograph through glass of the map at the Cayuga >Village Hall Seems to date to 1801 and this is a blueprint copy. >Not sure where the original is - maybe the Cayuga County Clerks Office ???? > >Top section >http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures192/19257small.j >pg >http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures192/19257.jpg > >Bottom Section >http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures192/19258small.j >pg >http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures192/19258.jpg > > > > > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to >NYCAYUGA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes >in the subject and the body of the message > > >------------------------------- >To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to NYCAYUGA-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message > > >
Hi Bill, This is a great map - thanks! Is there any way of determining who lived where? I'm trying to track down any information I can on Manassah French and/or Philander French (whom I believe to be father and son, or at least related). Thanks!
