Suggest you also post your query to the Otsego, Chemung, Tioga and Tompkins County website as many Dennis families lived in these counties. Also many of the original borders for various counties & town names in central NY (as we know them today) were divided and changed many times from abt 1790 until the early 1900's. My paternal Ggrandmother, Elta Belle (DENNIS) Hart was originally from the Candor area of Tioga County; her grandfather, Charles Dennis migrated to Candor from Otsego county (1850 census for Candor indicated he was born in there; his parents were John and Abigail Dennis.) Good luck with your search. Kem Nichols, Tioga County, NY ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
Dear Genealogy Friends, I could really use some input on how to find the parents of Eliza Ann DENNIS VanAuken. Ive searched everywhere that I can think of and have only found dead-ends (oops! no pun intended!). Eliza Ann was born 12 Jul 1811 and married Moses VanAuken on 17 Jan 1833. I do not know where they were married but understand that the ceremony was by the Rev. Mr. Hammon (spelling could be a factor here, Hammond??). She died 29 Nov 1877 in Cato, NY. The family lived in the Cayuga County communities of Ira, Red Creek and Cato, NY FYI: Wilbur is the middle name of her son, Myron, and he named his own son Wilbur. For years I assumed that meant she was the daughter of Wilbur DENNIS of Scipio but now that I am looking carefully I can find no mention of her in the list of his children. Somehow I still think they may be connected but just cannot figure out how! My intuition tells me that the answer may lie in either the BEVIER or DENNIS families. I have searched the VAN AUKENS intently but did not find anything about Eliza Anns family. Eliza constructed a small booklet and wrote in it the names of family members and some important dates rather like the info in a family Bible. She mentions Sarah BEVIER who died in 1849 at the age of 49. I believe this is her sister, Sarah DENNIS, who married Matthew Newkirk BEVIER in 1837. They lived and raised a family in Niles Township, Cayuga County, NY. The key might be the parentage of Sarah. Does anyone know it? Other names she listed were Shadrach DENNIS, d. Oct. 1835 (This matches the father of the Wilbur DENNIS in Scipio that I talked about. Why would that date be so important to her if she wasnt related?). Also: James H. Dennis d 17 Mar 1892 and Jonas L. DENNIS, d. 10 May 1868. I have also searched over and over for info on these last two but cannot locate any appropriate matches. Can any one help? This brick wall is driving me crazy!! Thanks for listening, Sharon --------------------------------- Finding fabulous fares is fun. Let Yahoo!
