Looking for information on the Whalen family of Scipio. The 1900 Census of Scipio, on pg 98b, shows this: (no birth years written) WHALEN, John; Head, born in Ireland in March, 40yrs old, married (but no wife in household) WHALEN, Ellen; sister, born in Ireland in March, 70yrs old, WIDOW, 1 child-still living WHALEN, Dennis; uncle, born in Ireland in June, 50yrs old, single WHALEN, Daniel; uncle, born in Ireland in Apr, 60yrs old, single It would seem that if Ellen were John's sister, as a widow her name would not be Whalen. Because of the vast age difference I wonder if she could this be John's widowed mother with Dennis and Daniel being brothers to her? In St. Bernard's new cemetery in Scipio are Ellen Whalen and John "her son" with no dates. There is also a Patrick Whalen who died May 7, 1895 age 78yrs. Does anyone know if he was Ellen's husband and if they were possibly John's parents?
On the 1840 census record for Locke, Cayuga County there is a John D. Baker with the following family: 1 Male under 5 1 Male 30-40 This would be John D. 1 female under 5 1 female 20-30 All the above would fit for my GGGrandfather but to get more proof of this I would like to find the names of John's wife and children. They are not listed on the 1845 or 1850 census for Cayuga County. As for additional proof I know my gggrandparents came from England either just before they married or right after they married. In the court records of Cayuga for October 1840 I find John D. Baker declaration of intent to become a citizen of the United States. Also in the court records of Cayuga County in October 1842 John D. Baker is admitted to Citizenship of the United States. Is there anyway I can find the names of the spouse and children on the 1840 census record? I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thank You very much Puzzledfrank@comcast.net In Spokane, WA.

My David Brown was born in 1814 in SpriSpringfield Twp, Bradford County, PA and died 26 FEB 1889 in Aurelius, Cayuga County, NY. He was the son of Adin Brown and Lydia Parmenter. http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=quedkr4&id=I0952 I have a cousin named Mary Quist, but I am fairly certain that this is not the same person. I do not believe that there are any Covey's in my family line. I wonder if this family could have moved to Yates county (then Ontario co.) either to Milo or Torrey. I believe there was a Clarissa and joseph there. Some of my Browns were living in Cuyuga Co and later moved to Steuben and Yates co. Sonja **************************************Check out AOL's list of 2007's hottest products. Leapfrog development that destroys good farmland This is the new Cayuga County BOCES site What once was the rural agricultural gateway to the City of Auburn, and some of the best farmland in Central New York, has been destroyed, while the nearby city of Auburn decays. Just to the right of this image is the brownfield of the former General Electric plant. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~springport/pictures209/sheet209/pages/20900_RJ.htm A textbook example of bad planning.
