Does anybody have a Herbert Buck born 1877 and Died 1955 married Caroline Guppy 1854 in Cato. Jim Guppy In a message dated 2/10/2008 10:27:31 P.M. The local LDS have been wonderful to me and I am an Irish Catholic (hahaha) but they sure have helped. I live near Yosemite and it is a very small town but so helpful. Eliz, Didn't you say she passed away about 1833? What happened to Nelson then? Did they both pass and he went with mom's parents (his grandparents)? Obviously he took his mothers last name thus eliminating his fraternal last name. I know how confusing it can be. I can't find my father and his brothers together in Cayuga Co. Yet all of them were supposedly born there. So, we keep looking for the McLaughlin Boys .... the only thing any of us knew ( sons and daughters) is that they were in an orphans home at some point. I for one think Grandma was married more than 2 times. I myself can find another in Los Angeles. So it seems that they frequently followed the crops in our case. Irish. Sorry I did not seem to find what you were looking for. Nelson Buck was born in 1808 to Aholiab and Annis Buck. Fidelia Wethey was born in about 1815 in Mentz?, NY to Abel and Elizabeth Wethey. Aholiab Buck and his brother moved to the area now known as Port Byron in about 1798. I also know that Nelson Buck taught music before moving to Illinois in about 1833. After moving to Illinois he became a surveyor. Erik On Feb 10, 2008 4:13 PM, Tamara Underwood <unde4@sti.net> wrote: > Another found > A . Hello, I was wondering if anyone on the list has access to any directories or other sources that might help determine if Nelson Buck and Fidelia Wethey were married at any point between 1830 and 1833. I believe that they would have been living in either Port Byron or possibly Mentz. They had a son named Oliver P. Buck, who later changed his name to Oliver P. Wethey. I believe that Fidelia died either during child birth or shortly after. Nelson Buck and his family then moved to Illinois and Oliver grew up with his grandfather Abel Wethey and Uncle Porter Wethey. Here are the two sources that I have at this time that lead me to believe that Fidelia and Nelson were indead married: ______________________________________________ >From Betty Wethey's Will (Fidelia's Mother): "Oliver P. Wethey of Mentz, Cayuga County descendant of Adelia (Fidelia) Buck a die daughter of the testator." ______________________________________________ >From the "The Biographical Record Of Livingston And Woodford Counties Illinois" page 204: "He (Nelson Buck) first married Miss Fidelia Withey, of Port Byron, New York, and they made their home in that place until her death." ______________________________________________ Any assistance in this search would be much appreciated. Thanks, Erik Quist
