I did an analysis* of my own data and came up with an average of 24 for males and 21 for females. This data includes 112 males and 113 females born between 1700 and 1800 for whom I have both a birth date and marriage date. Yes, I'm afraid it has been typical - of my experience, at least. I've received death certificates from NYS Dept of Health well over a year after my request.
