<< I found one article online that suggests that in New England the average age at first marriage for males was 25-26 while for females it was 18-20 (see http://www.usigs.org/library/research_aids/sue_recipes/recipe13b.html). I did an analysis* of my own data and came up with an average of 24 for males and 21 for females. This data includes 112 males and 113 females born between 1700 and 1800 for whom I have both a birth date and marriage date. Of these 5 of the males and 17 of the females were under the age of 18. >> Thank you for taking the time to post this information. I am trying to make a father / son connection, but chances are that the father end is probably too young. If only those early census records listed family members! Pat
Thank you! With the thousands of Irish immigrants arriving in Boston, this resource is bound to help the Irish search. I am finding it difficult because so many of them have the same name -- there are hundreds of Mary Hughes (my great grandmother)! Pat
Just in time for St. Patrick's day, Boston College has announced it's > putting online the "Missing Friends" column through which Irish immigrants > in Boston tried to find relatives and friends they'd lost track of. > > This is potentially an incredibly useful resource for those of us > searching for *our* relatives. Yes, I'm afraid it has been typical - of my experience, at least. I've received death certificates from NYS Dept of Health well over a year after my request. I had forgotten that I'd even requested them, so they were quite a surprise when they showed up! Betsy Gorman Elmira, NY In a message dated 3/16/2005 10:18:41 P.M. Eastern Standard Time, [email protected] writes: Is this typical? After being repeatedly ignored by the Fleming town clerk, I sent a request for a death certificate copy to the NYS Health Dept Archives. I knew the date and place of death, and a list member even looked up the death certificaae number in the Index at the Syracuse Library, so I even had the certificate. I included the exorbitant fee of $26 or something. I sent that in beginning of January 2004. In August 2004, they cashed my check. At the end of January 2005, over a year from my original request, I got my death certificate. Thanks Teress
