Thanks Cheryl, for the information. I sent the bit about lot 22 to the woman Teresa in the hopes of getting my family names out there. Hopefully, someone reading her post will have what we need. Thank you for the information on the Dole/Whitmore listings. Did you pay for rolls for these? Let me know how much and I will be glad to pay for them. You are helping me a great deal. My year so far has been a bit chaotic but all seems to be coming together. I will be going to the DC area for Mothers Day. If I'm lucky and nothing new goes wrong around here. Maybe I'll be able to find something on all this new-to me-information. Well, I'm out the door in search for a new bathroom sink and faucets. Have a good day. Colleen
Teresa, for what it's worth, I have a distant relative on my Jenkins side in New York who has the following information on that tract of land, lot 22. In the official "Ballot Book" for the Military track the book shows Lot 22 in the old town of Milton (now Town of Genoa) as being awarded to Jotham Fenton, not to a David Austin. I was attracted to your posting because I am trying to trace my James AUSTIN Jenkins b. Sept. 25, 1799 Columbia co. NY to Joseph Jenkins and Sophia Babbitt. I have his fathers side but am looking for his mothers side. While I'm at it, my James married Polly Dole b. 1803 Cayuga Co. She is somehow related to a John A. Dole and the Whittmore family. If anyone can clear up the Lot 22 info or help me with my Jenkins,Dole,Babbitt families I would appreciate it. Thanks,Colleen

While going through old land records for Cayuga Co. (Book of Deeds), I found the following tidbit that might be of interest to someone. My husband is distantly related to Cyrenus Wheeler of Scipio, which is what caught my eye. Not sure if this is even the same Cyrenus Wheeler and I have no known link to the Austins. On 27 Dec 1806, Cyrenus M. Wheeler purchased two pieces of property in Milton, County of Cayuga. They were purchased from Mary Jenkins of Town of Mumford? in the State of Connecticut and from her brother Charles Austin of Poplar Ridge. They came of the property through their father David, the brother of Jeremiah Austin, deceased Revolutionary veteran (died 1777?). He was granted Lot #22 in the Military Track. The document was also signed by Edward Austin and Wm. Wheeler (relationships unknown). Teresa
Hi Mark, Forgive me for being so tardy in getting back to you on Melvin Brown. It is possible your Melvin Brown could be a son of a brother to Samuel Right/Wright Brown. However, I don't know any of them!!! One of Samuel's sons named one of his sons, Melvin. He was born 3 Apr 1858 in Bath, Steuben County, NY. The family later moved to McHenry County, IL in the mid 1860s when Melvin was a little boy. Most children were named after close relatives or family friends in those early days. Much more than today's children. This Melvin never married and died at the home of his niece, Orissa Brown of Wauconda, WI. He died of Atrophic Chirrosis...(Drinking problem?) I didn't recognize any names in your family line. I wish I could tell you I did. Sonja
I've "rescued" a group of old photographs from Auburn, New York including two which are specifically identified as Ida PHILLIPS. The two identified photographs were taken at the Cooke Studio in Auburn when Ida was two years old in the Fall of 1908. The photographs are not identical, however her outfit is the same so I'm assuming they were taken on the same day. The other two photographs recovered along with Ida's photos are both of babies, the first likely taken in the 1880's at the H.S. Synyen Studio in Auburn and the second probably in the 1890's or early 1900's at the Lindsley Studio in Auburn. I don't know what the connection to Ida might be, however, they were all obtained from the same source so I believe there is likely some connection. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that all the photographs can be returned to their rightful place. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

I had been able to track David H. and saw he lived with his son Christopher at various times, based on census reports. Have forwarded that information to my cousin in Ohio. Thanks again. Diane
Dear Diane & other Foster researchers in Cayuga Co., I found this post from Oct. 8th, 2002 on Genforum it was posted by Rissa Stanley and has the hx of David H. Hello Diane, Well, if you have seen the Sayles web site on "nonesuchfolks": http://www.nonesuchfolks.com/Sayles_Genealogy_Book.htm You have seen this, that Antrus Foster Sayles was born in Rhode Island: "Anstrus FOSTER, wife of Ezekiel SAYLES, Jr. was born in Rhode Island. She had a brother, David H. FOSTER, living in Sempronius. He had two sons and two daughters; -- David H. FOSTER, Jr. married Polly MATTON; Christopher FOSTER married Eleanor WRIGHT; Susan FOSTER, married William WELCH; Altheda FOSTER, married John B. CLARK." Although one gentleman who responded seemed to believe that Samuel Hardy's middle name is "Savory" not "Sargent", so happy hunting in Rhode Island for your Foster family. New Jersey kept very good records in the 1700's & 1800's (at least Warren County, NJ). My biggest blanks are in NY, so maybe you will find them easily in Rhode Island. Hi, am sorry that I am unable to help you but perhaps your notes can help me. I am interested in finding out about James Foster. He was a partner-owner of the Foster Ross Store in Auburn NY sometime before 1913. This store (also called the Big Store) was also owned by my GGrandfather, James F. Ross, who died in 1913. To date have not been able to learn anything about Mr. Foster, although I believe I have a picture of the two families together. I would appreciate any info you might be able to share. I would definitely like to dig deeper into this one. I've been unsuccessfully trying to connect Anstrus and David FOSTER to anyone else. A HARDY connection makes a lot of sense. According to "Ancestors of Eldad Hardy, 1777-1857" by Lynn L. Hardy, Eldad HARDY had a brother, Samuel Savory HARDY, b. Feb 23, 1775, which would be of about the same generation as Anstrus and David FOSTER. Eldad and likely others in his family passed through Sempronius about the same time as the FOSTERS, SAYLES and others. Please contact me off the list for more ideas. Hello, A John Goff married one Foster sister. Have you seen this: http://www.nonesuchfolks.com/Sayles_Genealogy_Book.htm "Anstrus FOSTER Sayles, had two sisters; one married John GOFF. One descendent of the Goffs, Albina GOFF, living in Moravia, N.Y. The other sister married Samuel HARDY. There were three daughters: -- Minerva HARDY, married Lewis MORGAN and lived near Milan, Ohio. Celia HARDY married Perry ROOT, lived at Avery, Ohio. Flora HARDY married Christopher BIRD, lived at Ceylon, Ohio." Could this Samuel Hardy be Samuel Sargent Hardy? If so he married a Mary Foster. John Goff married Martha Foster. Is this your family?
