    3. That website http://www.pacivilwar.com/freepension.html says nothing about free access to any states other than Pennsylvania ! Isn't this a Cayuga County, NY List ? Mel Slane -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Tuesday, May 31, 2005 5:19 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [NYCAYUGA] FREE DATABASE ON Ancestry Hi Everyone, Ancestry.com has opened up several of its Civil War databases for no charge in remembrance this Memorial Day. These databases are open (and free) starting today until June 10. These databases are free only when accessed through the PaCivilWar site at http://www.pacivilwar.com/freepension.html . Although hosted by a PA Civil War site, these databases give free access to the vets from all the states in the database. **FREE Civil War Pension Index Images of 2.5 million Federal pension application cards that includes the veteran's name, state, regiment. It also contains the certificate number that can be used to order a soldiers' service and pension records from NARA. Many times, these pension records are gold mines of genealogy information. **FREE 1890 Census Veterans Schedule Often used as a head-of-household substitute for the 1890 Federal Census that was destroyed by fire, the Veterans' Census of Union and some Confederate soldiers is one of the newest census digitized by Ancestry. **FREE Disabled Soldiers Home Soldiers at various National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in 1895. Information includes name of soldier, company or regiment, rank, length of service, birth, age, where admitted from, occupation, married or single, and more. This invitation is being offered only to PACivilWar visitors at http://www.pacivilwar.com/freepension.html Follow the instructions on the page to register at Ancestry.com as PACivilWar's guest, and have fun! The registration to receive a user name and password to access the databases is free. If you want to share this invitation with friends, just forward this email to them, so they can take advantage of this limited time free access. If you think another mailing list or message board might want to know, please invite them, but be sure this message is on topic for the list before you forward it. 1. RE: [NYCAYUGA] Source for 1812 soldiers from Cayuga?
    2. Rod Fleck
    3. Mel - Thanks for that heads up. I didn't find the Cook I was looking for in the on-line list...I may ask a friend who is in NARA at DC to take a look to see if he can find the person I am looking for. Jonathan Cook, noted as Deacon Cook, is buried in the East Mecca, Ohio cemetery and the extraction for the cemetery notes that he is an 1812 vet as is his father...but, I know that his father really served only in the Am. Rev. War...So, it could be an error regarding the deacon/son. I did find Joel Downs in that list...that one is also interesting in that NARA only had part of a muster list for his regiment for September 1814 and his is on it, but listed as not present due to sickness. Are the numbers on the list provided the claim number for records??? 3. See Luther's "Moravia and Its Past" pp 241-245 and 264-266. He refers to papers of Liberty Brown that included a muster roll of Capt. Martin's Co., 19th Regt., dated Locke, N.Y., Sept. 25, 1812. The list was also published in the Moravia Republican-Register of Mar. 12, 1909. "Capt. Martin Barber; Lieut. Liberty Brown; Ensign Wm. Cobb; Sergeants, Wm. Backus, Jos. B. Miller, Stephen Richardson, Chas. White; Drummer Jas. VanOrsdale; Fifer Wm. A.
