Cold Spring was a census town. Steamburgh even had a train depot, because on a foggy morning in October, 1872, a collision occurred at the depot between a freight train and a passenger train. This depot was apparently a dangerous place to be, for in 1888, on Sunday morning, Feb. 5th, an eastbound passenger train plowed into the back of a freight train standing on a side track at the depot. William M. Brown erected a steam saw-mill in Steamburgh in 1858. E. L. Lyon in 1851 built a steam saw-mill in Steamburgh village.
