Lahr. =============== George J. Lahr, for 50 years an honorable resident of this village, passed suddenly away at his home on First street, Sunday, July 8 [1900], of heart failure, aged 76 years. Mr. Lahr was born in Elsheim, Austria, September 26, 1824, and emigrated to the United States in 1849. In 1861 when his adopted country was in peril he enlisted in Co. H. 37th N.Y.V., receiving an honorable discharge in 1862. He was a member of Ira Thurber Post G.A.R. Mr. Lahr was a physician by profession, which he practiced successfully for many years. Deceased is survived by three sons and four daughters as follows: Gustave of Allegany, George J. of Geneseo, NY, Max J. of Fillmore, NY, Mrs. M. J. Gese of Buffalo, and Henrietta, Lottie and Martha of Allegany. The funeral was held at the house, Wednesday, July 11, Rev. C. C. Eggleston of Elton, NY, officiating.
