At the age of 19 Ansell was apprentice to the trade of tanner and currier. In 1851 he married to Phebe CRAWFORD of Java NY who was the mother of a son and daughter. In 1856 he removed to Napoli NY where he famed for 3 years, then moved to East Randolph NY and resumed trade as currier. In 1878 he bought a farm in the Mud Creek area. He was an Assessor for the town of Napoli, Mrs Phebe Goodspeed died, March 24, 1880, he then married to Mrs. Cordelia (RICE) WAITE, October 30, 1883 Ansell and Phebe are buried Myrtle Cemetery Town of Poland, Chautauqua Co NY no date listed for Ansell's death. or lot nos.
